Title: Regional Forum “Lower Mekong Transboundary Cooperation: Joint Actions Joint Solutions
Date: 12 - 13 September 2017
Venue: Kasetsart University, Sakon Nakhon, Thailand
Summary: The two-day public forum, organised by the Thai National Mekong Committee and supported by three other National Mekong Committees and the Mekong River Commission, is to explore lessons learnt from bilateral projects on transboundary water cooperation among the four Mekong countries. Project teams from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam will share their experiences in developing cross-border water resources management and cooperation mechanisms with 200 participants from public and private sectors based in Thailand. Following the two-day form, the participants will visit the wetland management project site in the Nam Kam river basin. The bilateral projects are financed by the World Bank through the MRC’s Integrated Water Resources Management Project.

 

Title: Regional consultation workshop on Improvement of Data Management
Date: 14 - 15 September 2017
Venue: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam 
Summary: The workshop will discuss the MRC’s Procedures for Data and Information Exchange (PDIES). The PDIES addresses general data and information gathering, entering into the MRC Information System, and sharing amongst the member countries and access by other parties. It aims to (i) operationalise the data and information exchange among the four member countries; (ii) make available upon request, basic data and information to the public; and (iii) promote understanding and cooperation among the member countries in a constructive and mutually beneficial manner to ensure the sustainable development of the Mekong River Basin.

The MRC Council adopted the Procedures for Procedures for Data and Information Exchange and Sharing (PDIES) on 8 March 2001 at the 13th Council Meeting.

 

Title: Regional Workshop on Draft Concept Note for Development of Joint Environment Monitoring of Mainstream Hydropower Projects
Date: 15 September 2017
Venue: MRC Secretariat, Vientiane, Lao PDR
Summary: The workshop will discuss the: (i) draft concept note for development of joint environment monitoring of mainstream hydropower projects; (ii) overall lessons learnt from MRC’s existing environment monitoring activities; and (iii) needs and potential actions in the Draft Roadmap in developing the Joint Environment Monitoring of Mainstream Hydropower Projects.

 

Title: National Consultation Meeting to review and update the “MRC’s Preliminary Design Guidance and Sustainable Hydropower Development Strategy
Date: 18 – 25 September 2017

  • Hanoi, Vietnam (22 September)
  • Vientiane Province, Lao PDR (25 September)
Summary: The MRC Secretariat have prepared two concept notes on the review and update of the MRC’s Preliminary Design Guidance and Sustainable Hydropower Development Strategy, in order to kickstart the discussion and deliberation process among the member countries. These two concept notes provide principles, methodologies and steps required for the update processes. Upon national and regional consultations with member countries, these two concept notes will be considered and approved by the MRC Joint Committee.

Summary: Dr So Nam, Chief Environment Management Officer will present on Water-Food-Energy Nexus

 

Title: MRC Annual Work Plan for 2018 working session
Date: 25 September 2017
Venue: Siem Riep, Cambodia
Summary: The meeting will kick-start discussions on the 2018 Annual workplan including priority work items and related budget. 

 

Title: Working Group on 3rd MRC Summit
Date: 26 September 2017
Venue: Siem Riep, Cambodia
Summary: The meeting will discuss preparations for the 3rd MRC Summit 2018 including the preliminary draft outline of the Summit Declaration. 

 

Title: Seminar on Hydrodiplomacy: Instruments and Process of Water Cooperation
Date: 27 - 28 September 2017
Venue: Bangkok, Thailand
Summary: Under a partnership between MRC and IUCN, the seminar is aimed to provide relevant MRC officials with a better understanding and of cooperative arrangement and processes related to the governance of transboundary water resources. Ultimately, participants will have enhanced capacity on hydrodiplomacy tools and processes, and contribute to strengthening institutional architecture for water cooperation in the Mekong Basin.

 

Title: Council Study: Modeling Working Session on Main and Sub-development Scenarios Results
Date: 28-29 Sept 2017
Venue: MRC Secretariat, Vientiane
Summary: The working session will highlight to and hear comments from member countries the results of each modelling tool developed under the Council Study, including its detailed model setup and calibration.
